Carat weight is often expressed as a decimal or as points. A one carat diamond is the same as 1ct. or 100 points; a 1/2 carat diamond could also be called .5ct. or a 50 point diamond. Tourmaline is durable, rating a 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs Scale. Pink or red tourmaline is an alternative birthstone for October. Some artists and writers see the stone as a talisman that inspires creativity. It is also said to strengthen the body and soul, especially the nervous system, blood, and lymph glands.
